Neksdor Town

The Neksdor Town (Japanese: トナリーノの町 Tonarino no machi; Next Town) is the home of many citizens and the Genie. It is located in the western desert area of Neksdor, east of Greenhorne and west of the Realm of the Fey. It is the third area where the player can move around and talk to other Miis, along with being the third area attacked by the Dark Lord. This area is encountered after the Dark Lord has kidnapped the player's teammates for the first time. It has a population of 9 (including the Genie).

Dancing Guide[]

"She loves to sing and dance, but not when crowds are watching."

The Dancing Guide is a citizen and the first NPC encountered in the Neksdor Town. She greets every traveler she meets, asking them to dance along with her. When the Dark Lord attacks the area, her face will be placed on a painting named after her located in the Great Pyramid. Once she is rescued, she will give the player the Neksdor Jewel A.

Rambling Old Man[]

"Secretly wants to take up dancing. It's never too late to start!"

The Rambling Old Man is a citizen of the Neksdor Town. He will often ramble to the player about important plot elements, often mentioning the Dancing Guide with affection along the way. He is one of three Neksdor residents who don't get their faces stolen.

[After saving the Neksdor Town] "First there was [Genie’s name], the genie of the lamp… Then there was the Dark Lord, [Dark Lord’s name]... We’ve had our fair share of woes, ain’t we? But we’re happy and we’re all still in one piece. And that’s what matters. Me? I’m taking a musical leaf out of [Dancing Guide’s name]’s book! Shallaran, shallaran, shallawallaran! ♪"

Shady Merchant Family[]

Shady Merchant Daughter[]

"A shrewd girl who sells wares at a high price with the help of her father."

The Shady Merchant Daughter is a scam artist living in the Neksdor Town along with her father. When the player first arrives there, she will try to scam the player out of 500G (which she eventually discounts to 498G) for one MP Candy (which normally costs 100G) with her father faking an illness. If the player accepts the deal, she and her father will congratulate on their scam as the player looks shocked; if the player refuses to buy, she and the father will be disappointed. She is one of the victims of the Dark Lord's attack of the Neksdor Town, eventually having her face placed on the "Shady Merchant Daughter" Blade located in the Great Pyramid. Once her face is rescued, she and her father will reward the player with the Neksdor Jewel B.

Shady Merchant Father[]

"Rakes in the money by feigning illness. Amazed at his daughter's schemes."

The Shady Merchant Father is a scam artist living in the Neksdor Town along with his daughter. While his daughter talks to those they try to scam, he feigns illness by doing fake coughs. He is one of the victims of the Dark Lord's attack of the Neksdor Town, eventually having his face placed on the "Shady Merchant Father" Shield located in the Great Pyramid. Once his face is rescued, he and his daughter will reward the player with the Neksdor Jewel B.

Worried Explorer[]

"Scours the world in search of treasure but never finds a thing."

The Worried Explorer is a traveling NPC which the player can encounter all over Miitopia. He is first met in the Neksdor Town mapping the Great Pyramid for "fun and profit." It is also revealed later in post-game that the Scholarly Pioneer is his younger sibling. He never gets his face stolen by the Dark Lord.

He is then encountered in many sub-areas in Miitopia, giving hints to the player on how to get treasure. He will also give the player the Puzzling Tablet upon talking to him in the Citrus Cave. He can also be seen in the Travelers' Hub giving out Snurp Hunt quests, a type of quest exclusive to him.

[Upon meeting with him in The Sky Scraper] "Hmm... So here we are above the clouds... I feel like a deity all the way up here. Ahem... Worship me, you puny mortals! Bwahahahaha! ... Ah! It's you! It's been a while! Explorer [Worried Explorer's name], at your service. You've climbed a long way. And you say you're going farther up? If you are, you'd better take the stairs. Did you know? Right at the top there's a treasure vault. You'll need to remember this phrase: "Take the hidden road to find the secret treasure hoard." Well, I'll see you around!"
[Upon meeting with him in the Traveler's Hub, Very Rare Snurp Hunt] "Hmmmmmm... This might be my big chance to shine! I can use this opportunity to bulk up the old physique. "[Worried Explorer's name], you're so magnificent! Can I have your autograph?" they'll say! I can practically hear the crowds roar! And I'll be forced to humbly accept their wild adoration! Gak! How long were you standing there? Ahem, it is I, [Worried Explorer's name] the explorer! I have some special information, just for you! In the Realm of the Fey lies a lake filled with lotuses. You know what? I'll tell you a little secret. Somewhere in Bigg Forest in the Realm of the Fey... there's been sightings of a most peculiar monster. It's golden, and it sparkles brilliantly. [If the player declines his Traveler's Hub quest, Very Rare Snurp Hunt] "What? You're sure about this? But you'd be missing such an incredible opportunity..."

Prickly Husband[]

The Prickly Husband is a citizen of the Neksdor Town and is the husband of the Prickly Wife. He is one of the victims of the Dark Lord's attack of the Neksdor Town, eventually having his face placed upon the "Prickly Husband" Cobra. Once his face is rescued, he will reward the player with the Neksdor Jewel C.

The Prickly Wife is a citizen of the Neksdor Town and is the wife of the Prickly Husband. She constantly nags and argues with her husband, even after his face gets stolen and is unable to speak. She does not get her face stolen.

Desert Celebrity[]

"A wealthy celebrity who just can't seem to stop getting richer."

The Desert Celebrity is a rich celebrity from Neksdor. When first encountering her, she asks the player to retrieve back her gold from the Genie. However, as soon as the player finishes her quest, she is one of the victims of the Dark Lord's attack of the Neksdor Town, having her face placed on a painting named after her located in the Underground Maze. Once her face is rescued, she will reward the player with the Neksdor Jewel D and some gold. Sometime after all of Neksdor is rescued from the Dark Lord, she hires the Genie to work for her as a barista.

After defeating the Dark Lord, she will eventually appear in the Traveler's Hub, giving the player a Level 15 quest to retrieve the Mouth Sky Scraper Jewel from the Underground Labyrinth for his/hers to keep, as she threw it out.

Trivia[]

In the EU version of the game, the Prickly Couple is known as the “Prickly Pair”. This may be a play on "prickly pear", which is a common name given to cacti of the genus Opuntia.
Excluding the Genie, the people of the Neksdor Town are mostly gender-bent parallels to the people of the Greenhorne Town.
- The Dancing Guide mirrors the Carefree Guide, being much more active instead of lax.
- The Rambling Old Man mirrors the Cheery Granny, being much more cranky and stuck in the past.
- The Shady Merchant Family mirrors the Worried Mother and Sassy Child, as the Shady Father encourages crime while the Worried Mother aims to keep her child out of trouble.
- The Prickly Couple mirrors the Lovey-Dovey Couple, with the obvious distinction being their dysfunctional relationship as opposed to an overly sweet one.
- The Worried Explorer mirrors the Sarcastic Guy, being much more frightened about the looming threat while the latter largely ignores it.
- The Desert Celebrity mirrors the Dubious Mayor, being much more glamorous and do-gooder.
- If counting the Prince from a Nearby Land, he mirrors the Princess, being selfish and vain while the latter is caring and selfless.
- If counting the Genie, he mirrors the King, being greedy and a liar while the latter is honest and generous.
The default Mii characters used for the Shady Merchant Family in the Switch version (Cyn for the Daughter and Suss for the Father) have similar designs as the Mii characters used for the Imp’s (for the daughter) and the Thief‘s (for the father) artwork for the 3DS version, albeit the daughter has a darker skin tone and different colored eyes. Also, Suss was used as a Chef in some of the Switch trailers (with the favorite color red).
The European Switch version gives different default names for the roles:
- The default name for the Dancing Guide in the European region of the Switch version is Trotter.
- The default name for the Rambling Old Man in the European region of the Switch version is Harpo.
- The default name for the Shady Merchant Daughter in the European region of the Switch version is Delia.
- The default name for the Shady Merchant Father in the European region of the Switch version is Junkie.
- The default names for the Prickly Couple in the European region of the Switch version are Chalky (Prickly Husband) and Bree (Prickly Wife).
  - This may be a play on the idiom "like chalk and cheese", which describes two people who are very different from each other. Bree may be a play on "Brie", a type of cheese.
- The default name for the Worried Explorer in the European region of the Switch version is Ant.
- The default name for the Desert Celebrity in the European region of the Switch version is Pursilla.
The Rambling Old Man is the only character coded to have the Aging status to achieve the effect for his appearance.
The Worried Explorer, like some recurring NPCs, use one of the Personality voices. In Neksdor Town and the Traveler's Hub, he uses the Cool voice, while in other areas such as the Sky Scraper and Karkaton Peak, he uses the Kind voice.
